What does your business do and who do you help?
We do a bit of everything—structural steel, gates, balustrading, general metalwork. We work with homeowners, builders, commercial clients, and we also do NDIS handrails around Canberra.
What’s been the biggest challenge?
Every step needs attention to detail. If something is even a few millimetres off, it can throw the whole job out and cost money to fix.
What are you most proud of?
Having a successful team. Everyone works well together, there’s a good atmosphere, and we get the job done to a high standard.
What’s helped you grow the business?
Working closely with my dad and learning everything from him. Even now, if I get stuck, I can still call him.
What’s one lesson you’d share with other business owners?
Trust your staff, learn from mistakes, stay on top of your jobs, and stand your ground when needed.
What does success look like over the next 12 months?
It depends on the industry. Last year slowed down, but things are picking up again. The goal is to stay busy, potentially bring on more people, and keep the team running well.
What would make the biggest difference to the business right now?
Focusing on the type of work that delivers better margins—jobs like balustrading that are efficient, lower cost, and still profitable.
